Old Button

Found this old button dirt fishing. Its not even all that pretty as these things go, but what's cool is that it has text you can google, and it is locally made at some local Chester County shop, and not in some Asian sweat shop. Its just a tiny little window into history that makes dirt fishing fun.

It says Mullin & Loomis West Chester. What came up was the following quote from an 1883 newspaper, and the ad below.

Daily Local; 10/11/1883
William Kates, of Philadelphia, a soldiers' orphan, came to West Chester today from Chester Springs, where he had been attending the Soldiers' Orphans' School, at this place. He attained his 16th birthday yesterday, which event severed his connection with this institution by the rules and regulations governing the same. A new suit is given each boy leaving the school and Mullin & Loomis measured young Kates for his to-day. There are about 192 scholars at this school at present. (source)

Yeah, I have too much time on my hands, don't I? Below are a couple of the other cool old finds I made as this site.
